How are pay as you go cell phones compared to regular contract cell phones?

Recently I read a question from a 14 year old in Yahoo Answers who wrote asking about how pay as you go cell phones stacked up in comparison to phones that you purchase along with a cell phone contract.

When they were first introduced to the market pay as you go cell phones might not have been up to par with contract phones. These days with phones like the Kyocera Loft, Rumour Touch, and Blackberry Curve 8530 I think you’d have to agree that those days are over.

If you are looking for a sleek stylish phone that has a camera, a full qwerty keyboard for texting and full internet access for under a hundred bucks the Kyocera Loft is absolutely amongst the front runners. This phone comes with a battery that gives you an actual talk time of 4 hours and a standby time of over 9 days! Wow! It’s 2.2″ QVGA screen is great for texting and visiting Facebook or MySpace. Virgin Mobile is offering this phone at $69.99 for now but I don’t know how long thats going to last.

Pull this phone out and watch your friends go nuts from jealousy! The Blackberry Curve will place you in the realm of “legendary” but it’s price tag is a whopping $299.99. Still with 3G speeds, a slide out qwerty keyboard, blue tooth, mp3, mobile web, maps and navigation, YouTube, memory card slot and voice activated dialing it might be worth saving up your paycheck for a while.

Don’t need all the extra stuff but still need a good phone? Don’t worry there are some quality flips out there for less than $25 that will do just fine. Hey take a look at the LG Flare for $19.99 at Virgin Mobile. Buy this phone and the company will donate $5.00 to the Susan G. Komen Foundation for research toward curing breast cancer.  It may not be fancy but iIt will text, IM, receive email and a whole lot more. At this price it’s is a gem and a real bargain.

All things considered the pay as you go cell phones have come a long way and I think they’re neck and neck with regular contrcat phones. Do your homework and I think you’ll agree.
